
Medical social services project at the Gulab Devi Chest Hospital was established in 1982. Four Medical Social Officers have been deputed at the Hospital by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of the Punjab. They are actively involved in the care of the patients and help them in their rehabilitation after discharge from the Hospital. They coordinate with the patients, Hospital administration and the Society for Rehabilitation of Patients to solve the patient problems. They also manage Zakat Fund with the help of the Hospital administration.
Lala Lajpat Rai was a well known figure in the political and social circles of pre¬-Independence India. His mother, Gulab Devi, died of TB in Lahore. In order to perpetuate her memory, Lala Lajpat Rai established a Trust in 1927 to build and run a TB Hospital for women reportedly at the spot where she had breathed her last.
