
History
Gulab Devi Hospital was established in 1927 by Lala Lajpat Rai in memory of his mother, Gulab Devi, who died of Tuberculosis in Lahore. With land granted and purchased in 1930, the hospital’s construction was completed in 1934 and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Originally a 50-bed TB facility, it expanded significantly after 1947 under new leadership, including Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan and Syed Wajid Ali.
Today, it is South Asia’s largest chest hospital with 1,500 beds, offering free, In territory care in chest and cardiac specialties. Affiliated with leading medical institutions, it serves as both a treatment and teaching hospital, committed for over 80 years to serving the underprivileged through philanthropy and dedicated healthcare professionals.
