The department was started in 2012 as OPD and indoor services for obstetric and gynecological issues of women presenting with cardiac diseases in Gulab Devi Hospital. The department started expanding in 2017 after the foundation of Al Aleem Medical College. It got recognized for MCPS training in 2019 and for FCPS training in 2020. So far, 16 doctors have completed MCPS training and gone, many of whom have passed their exam too. From Jan 2021 induction of a pioneer batch of FCPS postgraduate trainees, the department exclusively focused on the standards of a major teaching hospital, & took FCPS trainees only. 

The department is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, along with students of allied health sciences and nursing students. At present, we have 20 FCPS PGs in training. From an old building since its foundation in 2012, the dept has finally moved into a brand new 3-storey building about 3 years ago. A round-the-clock maternity OT & labor ward has been established on the ground floor while 2 Gynae OT for daytime elective lists are on the first floor.
