Hypertension Awareness Walk Held at Gulab Devi Teaching Hospital to Promote Early Detection and Preventive Care

In observance of global efforts to raise awareness about hypertension and cardiovascular health, Gulab Devi Teaching Hospital organized a Hypertension Awareness Walk to emphasize the importance of awareness, early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, and collective action against high blood pressure.

The awareness activity brought together management, healthcare professionals, faculty members, staff, and participants committed to promoting preventive healthcare and educating the community about the dangers of uncontrolled hypertension.

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, occurs when the pressure inside the blood vessels remains consistently elevated at 140/90 mmHg or higher. Although it is one of the most common non-communicable diseases worldwide, it often develops silently without noticeable symptoms. Because of this, many individuals remain unaware that they are living with hypertension until serious complications occur.

Regular blood pressure monitoring and routine medical checkups play a critical role in identifying hypertension early and reducing long-term health risks.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.4 billion adults aged 30–79 years worldwide were living with hypertension in 2024, representing nearly one-third of the global adult population in this age group.

If left untreated, hypertension can significantly increase the risk of serious health complications, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart failure
  • Vascular complications

Healthcare experts continue to stress that early diagnosis, lifestyle modification, routine screening, and timely treatment can help prevent these complications and improve long-term health outcomes.

The Hypertension Awareness Walk reflected the ongoing commitment of Gulab Devi Teaching Hospital toward preventive healthcare initiatives and public health education. Through awareness campaigns and community engagement activities, the hospital aims to encourage individuals to prioritize regular blood pressure screening and adopt healthier lifestyles.

Simple preventive measures such as maintaining a balanced diet, reducing salt intake, staying physically active, managing stress, avoiding smoking, and attending routine health checkups can contribute significantly to controlling blood pressure and improving overall cardiovascular health.

A simple blood pressure check can help detect hypertension early and prevent life-threatening complications. Public awareness initiatives such as this awareness walk serve as an important reminder that timely medical care and informed lifestyle choices can save lives.
